The middle of summer, lovely to swim and relax by the pool at Finca al-manzil but makes a refreshing change to swim in a huge expanse of water. Pippa, Vicky, Kate and Manfred head for the Proserpina lake, only 20 minutes away from the finca, a huge reservoir of water captured by a 2000 year old Roman dam. It was designed to be the drinking water supply for ancient Merida, the water is beautifully clean and warm.
Before lunch in one of the pleasant waterside restaurants we rented a pedalo which was great fun, easy to peddle to the dam wall but more difficult on the way back with the current running against us, lovely to see the lake from the water and take a dip from the "boat", best place to be on this hot day.
Enormous salad of goats cheese, raisins, walnuts and a mountain of lettuce.
